Sound Pressure Meters- Sound Pressure Meters monitor frequency ranges below, in and above average human capacity.  For that fact, they can be very valuable for ghost hunting.  That's the major point of having a sound level meter or SLM.  MonitoringSound Pressure Meter for Ghost Hunting frequencies out of the normal scope of human ear can give great clues and leads as to what is behind the anomalies reported on ghost hunts.  This is a great device to use in conjunction with an audio recording device when experimenting with EVP while ghost hunting.

Sound pressure meters are important for ghost hunters researching EVPs

Other digital sound meters with PC interface can have additional features that are helpful with specific ghost hunting theories.  Beyond that, we would quickly move into needing advance arrays of sound monitoring equipment.  Equipment such as oscilloscopes, and sophisticated antennas capable of monitoring extremely low frequencies (ELFs) and ultra frequencies all paired together with sound level meters.  The ideal ghost hunter would then connect everything to a PC with appropriate for real time data logging.  This is not economical for most ghost hunters.  That type of setup has its restrictions due to cost for most people.  We feel that more research down this path is justified at this time to learn more about the environment during a perceived paranormal experience.

There are many types of sound pressure meters that a ghost hunter might come across.  Some have the simple capacity of measuring the total volume in decibels at any given point in time and space.  Sound level meters can also monitor frequency ranges below, in and above average human capacity.  As humans we are able to detect sound in a range approximately 20Hzt through 20,000Hzt.  Monitoring sound outside this range could add valuable insight into your investigation.  Sound level meters that are capable of determining sound frequency are typically more oscilloscopes than simple SLMs.

Sound pressure meter for EVP researchMonitoring frequencies out of the normal scope of human ear can give great clues and leads as to what is behind the anomalies reported while ghost hunting.  It can be difficult or at least extremely expensive to find one meter that is outfitted with these oscilloscope features.  If you are serious about documenting the many frequency ranges, and origination in your investigation environment you may be forced to use an array.  Simply said an array consists of two or more sound monitoring pieces of equipment connected to each other and or a final data logging device such as a laptop computer.  By connecting numerous pieces of equipment placed in different locations, a clearer understanding of the sound environment begins to develop over what a single sound level meter could ever hope to achieve.

Even if you are using a basic sound level meter, it can be a great device to use in conjunction with a microcassette on ghost hunts.  A sound level meter that can be attached to a computer documenting real-time data in tandem with a digital audio recorder (also connected to a computer for real-time data logging) is ideal.  This setup even when used in conjunction with a metal tape media microcassette is still wrought with uncontrolled variables.  If you use this system as well as enough quality oscilloscopes that data log and cover the entire spectrum, you begin to minimize the variables, but never fully remove them.

Absent of specific theories being tested on a ghost hunt, the sound level meter still helps us monitor another variable that could later be used to explain reported paranormal experiences.  Learning as much about the environment that our investigations occur in, lends us a greater possibility to notice patterns, or other explanations for any anomalies being investigated by ghost hunters.
